HELP how do i save in The legend of Zelda for NES without dying?

Question

i need some help here is there some way of saveing the game without dieing the game is the original GOLD cart for the NES.

its not the battery im haveing a problem with its saveing without haveing to die
to get to the save screen.

If your LoZ game isn't letting you save, the only thing I can think of is that maybe the battery that is built into the game to allow saves is dead. I've heard those batteries can last 10-20 years, and considering that game is 20 years old (it came out in 1987), it sounds like this is your problem. EDIT - I seen your update, and I found this:
Save Without Dying
If you want to save and do not want to take the time to die properly, here's how to do it. Bring up the sub-screen by pressing start on controller 1. Now take controller 2 and press A and any direction on the control pad and the save screen will appear. Please note: the retry selection will not be available.

Fast Save
To exit and save your game quickly, press Start on Controller 1 and Up+Start on Controller 2.

Sure can just hit start on controller 1, and this will take you to the inventory screen. While in the inventory screen with your items, Then take your second controller making sure its plugged in your NES and press the "Up" direction on the controller and press "A" on controller number 2! These must be pressed at the same time and it will take you to a menu where you can save your game. Thanks for the memories, Skull!

I havent played that game in probably 10 years, but i dont ever remember any other way to save. Try Pressing start or select?
