What, another post critizing how someone raises, and feeds a child?
I applaud that you take the time to make sure your baby has the best tasting food around, but some parents, especially the ones who work, can't make their childs food from scratch every time.
Why does people feel the need to bash other mom's SO often.

I imagine most people do this because that's what's marketed to them. Even doctors don't disparge "this crap", whereas, they have been known to advise parents *against* making their own. Why? Because most people these days a) don't have time to make their own (same reason they eat out, buy frozen food and other convenience meals when it's so much better to cook from scratch), and b) are inadequately educated on what makes up a proper diet for themselves, let alone what sort of nutritional needs an infant has.
Most people don't eat pureed food on a regular basis in general. Also, most people don't eat very /bland/ food on a regular basis, which is what babies need. Lots of spices and stuff aren't necessary for them. Just because adults wouldn't eat it on a regular basis doesn't mean it's /bad/.
Note that I'm not disagreeing that making your own baby food is healthier - it is, /if/ you do it right. Not necessarily cheaper, though. Depends on where you're at. Fresh fruits and veggies are NOT cheap where I'm from. But why would you criticize other parents for having different opinions than you? Is it necessary? If you believe it's healthier and better, do what you wish. And let others do the same.
Packaged baby food is not UN-healthy, any more than canned veggies are less healthy than fresh ones, or applesauce from a jar off the shelf is from homemade. Is there a taste difference? But there's a time difference, too. And a monetary difference. I can buy a jar of applesauce a heck of a lot cheaper than I can buy the apples to make it. And I don't have to spend an hour or three in the kitchen.
Differences in lifestyle is all.
By the way: do you have pets? Make your own pet food too?

Where I live, fruits do not last long. I don't have a clue why...
I do not have the ability to go to the store every 2-3 days to buy fresh fruit. The way I feel...you really only feed your baby jar food for about 3 months before they are all over what you are eating; I think they will be fine. I am glad to see organic baby food though...didn't have it 4 years ago with my daughter!

i tasted everything before i gave it to the baby, and didnt give it to him if i found it to taste yucky or if i found it to have ingredients that i thought were unhealthy for him. while it is cheaper to make your own it may not be a good idea because you will probably have alot left over and you need to give your baby a little bit of everything. it may be better when you are starting a new food and you have to check to see if there are any allergies, as long as the particular fruit or veggie keeps well then its no problem. i have fed him bananas from gerber as well as from Chiquita.

In the 2.5 years between my kids baby food has changed dramatically. It now tastes like food, I would actually eat it!! They have special grades and lumpier stuff for older babies. My daughter was a fussy eater and gave me complex about feeding her, so I do it the convenient way and jarred food is good for my boy, no matter what he is getting the best and I don't have to stress about it. It is not crap, I'm just lazy!!

Some moms don't have time, some moms don't know how (if they were never shown how are they to know) and some moms feel like they are doing all they can and for them to add something else as a need to will make them go crazy.
As long as the mom loves, cares for, and does what is right emotionally, and mentally for thier child then if they choose to buy baby food or make their own that shouldn't matter!
My husband and I work with youth who have been emotionally and mentally abused through part or most of their lives...homemade baby food is the least of what they needed.
What they needed was parents who love them and cared for them.
To each mother thier own. I myself prefer to use fresh and natural things for my kids to eat I will not judge someone for buying baby food!!!! To each their own! As long as they love their children and meet the really important needs then they are doing what is right!!

I'm a SAHM but never had the time to make my childs food by hand. Applesauce tastes the same...my husband eats it all the time. Plus your showing GERBER and how long has Gerber been around? Obviously it's not that bad b/c they still sell it and make new flavors. If you choose to take your time and do it yourself then congrats for you but it's easier for me to buy it and feed to my children instead of trying to get all the machines out and make it myself while my child is crying and crying for food when I can hurry, open the package and Voila! she's happy. Sorry but each do their own things and just b/c we differ from you doesn't make you better than us. My child is now 2 and is extremely healthy and no problems and she eats right and doesn't matter if it's natural or contained in a container. As for the taste and baby eating it everyday..their taste buds aren't formed all like ours..when they eat new things they experience a new taste but to them they like it...if they don't they will spit it out but when they have had bland breastmilk or formula and then go to a fruit or veggie from a container..it's different and they decide if they like it or not by eating it or spitting it out.

OK, then i have a question....are you feeding your baby beets, turnips, carrots, collard greens, or spinach? did you know that the chemicals used in pesticides on these plants soak into them and increase the amount of nitrates there are in the veggies? and after you use veggies or fruits, do you put the leftovers in the refrigerator? did you know that that also increases the amount of nitrates? now, did you know that nitrates can cause severe anemia in babies, and can even lead to death? oh, and did you know that baby food companies screen their veggies to make sure they don't have an excessive amount of nitrates? just one more thing... i only have $340 a month that i can spend on food. I'm feeding three adults, and one baby. $60 pays for an entire month of food for my daughter. and she's happy, healthy, and loves her baby food. which is safe, cheap, and very nutritious, as if it's any of your business.

Gerber has been around for decades. Infants have been eating it for years, and it's OK. People are turning out fine. Gerber Baby Food is not the cause of obesity or childhood disease.
Not everyone has the time or the patients to cut up all those fruits and veggies and put them in the food processor, etc. Plus, a lot of those packaged baby foods have added vitamins in them. Which is actually beneficial to a child's development.
You need to chill.

Because some moms don't have all the time in the world to make their own. I made some of my own and i bought some. Its whatever is convient for them at the time. Being a mom is hectic enough. I tasted the bananas and they didn't taste that bad. I always taste her food before i give it to her. If it tastes bad, I don't give it to her.
but anyway she's been on solids now. so she eats what i eat.
