Windows all ready uses part of your hard drive as "virtual memory". This means that when the memory of your RAM chips is exceeded by the tasks your computer is doing, it uses the hard drive space as memory.
This is very slow as it requires the hard drive to spin around to access the bytes for memory use.
A better idea is to get more RAM.

Use Hard Drive As Ram

Assuming you are using Microsoft Window's XP, Windows will already have selected a portion of your hard drive the dedicate as "virtual memory." It's usually 1.5 X larger than your physical memory, and is stored on your C: drive. Ideally, to improve your computer performance, More physical memory chips would be superior.

The disadvantage though to using the hard drive for memory is speed. Hard drives are much slower than a memory chip, which is why hard drives haven't replaced Memory entirely. The reason hard drives are slower is because they have to "spin up." Basically when your computer is in an idle state, the hard drive stops spinning to conserve power; it usually takes just a few seconds to spin up to their usual RPM. while advancements in technology such as solid state hard drives and using DDR2 Memory chips as hard drives, the technology is young and expensive; also very hard to find for the average consumer. Although solid state hard drives are now being shipped in Alienware Laptops, they come at a price, adding over $900 to the value of the laptop for just a 64GB Drive.

In conclusion, the best way to enhance the performance of your computer if it is lacking sufficient memory, purchase another chip of compatible memory.

PS: Since I build computer, it's nothing for me to put more memory in a computer, but to those less tech savy than me, I'd suggest you get a professional to install, or even suggest which memory you buy for your machine; the wrong type will not work. If you have a warranty or an upgrade package on your computer, contact the manufacturer and get them to install it.

You can adjust the paging file, this is what windows uses as RAM but placed on the HDD.
To increase it go to: Control panel, System, Properties, Advanced Tab, Performance Settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory, there you set the paging file size to either custom, or let Windows decide. Don't set it too high or it will impact on performance

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Windows uses some space on C-drive to be used as virtual memory or RAM. But you can increase your RAM using other drives as virtual memory.
These are very easy steps just see expertofhacks.blospot.com

well, if you are using a Windows XP then all you need to do is go to My Computer then is located on your desktop as icon, right click it then go to PROPERTIES. Look for the tab that would allow your to manually or automatically set the PAGE FILE system and configurations. You might also find a tab there that would somehow help you to choose to make your all configurations for BETTER PERFORMANCE...

yet still having an additional physical memory will be a very big help.

happy computing.

Right click My Computer>properties. Then choose advanced, the choose Performance. Then choose advanced and Virtual memory. Adjust according to the size of your hard drive.
I have mine set at 5000-5500 with 104515 MB hard drive and 2 gigs of ram.
While you are there, adjust visual effects to best performance

that is not possibe, a hard drive is used for storage of main files, whereas RAM is RAndom access memory which is much faster than a hard drive. RAM stores current files that are being used on it, so the computer can access them faster, but it is limited by its space, and how much RAM background processes are using. sorry. A great place to buy more RAM is newegg.com and a great company is patriot ram, it is decently priced, i have never had a stick that failed, and best of all it is made in the USA!!!

If you have Windows than you allready are.

In that cause the best things you could do for your Drive would be to keep the register clean and defraged the drive clean and defraged and keep Windows firewall up.

All that other Mc security or what ever is garbage!
