I seen my two mystery snails getting to know each other, if you know what i mean, about two days ago. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long after the mating scene she should lay her eggs. I keep looking around the tank (above the water line) and I have not found any eggs.
facts: mystery snails, 55 gallon tank with three inches of glass above water line, been treating for ich with higher temp of 89f, thats all I can think of to tell you
thank you in advance.

The first answerer is incorrect when it comes to mystery snails - these aren't hermaphrodites, the sexes are separate. Although you only need to have one if you bought a female - they can store sperm and lay fertile eggs for a few months after a single mating. But you should be sure you have a male and female of the same species.

Once they've mated, it can take a few days to a few weeks for the female to lay the eggs, but you obvioulsy know something about them since you've lowered the water level so she has a place to deposit them above water. The warmer temperature will allow the eggs to develop faster, but it's best not to keep the temperature that high any longer than absolutely necessary (or move the snails to a temporary tank). If kept in tropical temperatures, it shortens the life span of mystery snails. They live for up to 10 years in room-temperature tanks, but only 2-3 in tropical tanks.

Heres everything you should know:

-The fact that you two mystery snails are 'getting to know eachother' is not at all factor in the laying of eggs. All snails are hermaphrodites and essentialy fertilize themselves and have little clones. While two snails will on occasion exchange sperm for the heck of it, two snails only means twice as many eggs.

-It only takes one snail to lay the eggs, and they generally don't have particular gestation period.

-If you start to see little gelly like blobs with white specs in them those will be the eggs.

-They hatch within a week or so of laying eggs, and those babies will be able to lay eggs themselves within two weeks of hatching.

-You'll be surprised when you see exactly how quickly a pair of snails will infest an entire tank with little midget snails :-)
(they are very hard to get rid of!)
