I am not a student, I was born and lived in Cali. for 26 year. I then moved to Montana and have been living here since. I just won 100% custody of my kids and am free to move back. But the court says that as lond as I am still a Montana resident I will have to continue court up here. How long does it take to become a legal resident of the state again, or what can I do to speed it up.

thanks

Call the courts in the county you are wanting to move to, get a drivers license and see what they say. Hunting licenses (in CA) make you wait 6 months before they declare you a resident to pay reduced hunting fees and I think for college they require you to be there 1 year to be considered a resident. Hope this helps... Can I ask why the h*ll you want to move back to CA? ;D We escaped from CA 2 years ago and would LOVE to live in Montana... Good luck in whatever you do and congratulations on winning your kids back!

Used to be 6 months. That is not going to change the jurisdiction of your divorce to California though.

I was registered to vote ~ 2 weeks after I first moved to California IIRC..
