It will depend on many factors...including your own body. Remember that there is no owner's manual that come with you at birth, it's all just best guess. I would evaluate how much you bleed during your regular monthly cycles to guesstimate if you are bleeding heavily. What color the blood is also can give important clues- red fresh, brownish old. For me I only bleed one week but I have always monitored my "regulars" so I wasn't really expecting a heavy flow. I would also continue to take your prenatal pills if you still have them, since you are still bleeding it's always best to keep your iron levels higher to assist your body in making more blood cells.
**Talk to your doctor if you are
-very concerned
-having intense pain
-fevers
-or any problem they have advised you to keep them posted about
Good luck and congrats on your little girl

The average time is about 6 weeks. The more active you are the more it will increase your bleeding. Make sure you are not overdoing your activity. If you are still bleeding from the tear, give your provider a call.

4-6 weeks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lochia
In the field of obstetrics, lochia is post-partum vaginal discharge, containing blood, mucus, and placental tissue. Lochia discharge typically continues for 4 to 6 weeks after childbirth and progresses through three stages.
Lochia rubra is the first discharge, red in color because of the large amount of blood it contains. It typically lasts no longer than 3 to 5 days after birth.
Lochia serosa is the term for lochia which has thinned and turned brownish or pink in color. It contains serous exudate, erythrocytes, leukocytes, and cervical mucus. This stage continues until around the tenth day after delivery.
Lochia alba is the name for lochia once it has turned whitish or yellowish-white. It typically lasts from the second through the third to sixth week after delivery. It contains fewer red blood cells and is mainly made up of leukocytes, epithelial cells, cholesterol, fat, and mucus.
Lochia generally has an odor similar to that of normal menstrual fluid. Any offensive odor indicates a possible infection and should be reported to a healthcare provider.

just because you had an episiotomy dos not mean you'll bleed longer, it varies on the woman. With my first I bled for 7 weeks, it was much less with my second and third, however if you are still bleeding heavily ( soaking a pad within a couple hours ) call your OBGYN.

I bled for 11 weeks. I was getting really worried, but it finally started tapering off and was eventually gone altogether. My cousin also bled longer than "normal," which is 6-8 weeks. Every woman is different, I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones (more SWELLING than normal, more BLEEDING than normal...) :)

6-8 weeks is normal. sometimes you can be lucky and only last 3 weeks. the episiotomy should heal within 2 weeks as long as it's taken care of properly so the bleeding won't be from that. Mine lasted 8 weeks and as soon as I stopped I started my cycles again within 2 days. It was horrible!

Hi there...with my third baby, I bled for about 6 weeks after.
Every woman is different. I would not be too concerned about it unless the blood is bright red, and is heavy at all times.
Breastfeeding could also affect the process.

I bled until about 5 weeks so I think your okay. Don't you have a visit with your doctor at 6 weeks? Write down any questions you have and ask him/her then.
