The real question is can it be done without pulling the engine. I appear to have a pretty good leak in the rear of the engine, the mechanic said it was the freeze plug.

You can replace probably 2 or 3 of them but it is very difficult to do,you need a hoist to get under the vehicle because it's almost impossible to do on the ground. There are frost plugs on the back of the engine that you cannot see because they are between the back of the engine and the transmission,it is a big job to replace all of the plugs. It could be cheaper to pull the engine because there is less of a struggle to get to them.

take your car to the wash, clean it thouroughly, then run the car and find the leak.
>some frost plugs are hard to get at
> cost of pulling the engine may be high sepecially if its a piece of junk car and your living at home.
> maybe you can get some high temp. silicone or get it sealed by welding it. one welded plug wont matter.
