Can the backyard be the reason? I mean, I left my lawn for about two years, and now 90% of my lawn is just green moss. The patio is a complete disaster/mess that looks like a battlefield.

Blow flies! There is probably a dead mouse around or something stinky that is attracting the flies. As for the other critters, it could be the weather running them in and you will be getting a lot of mice too! Be careful with poisins if you have a pet or small children in your home any time. My husband gets some spray form the farms suply store, mixes it in one of those pump sprays and soaks everything in and around the base of the house twice a year.

Big green flies, huh? Those usually appear when you have fruit lying around the house or any type of food. If thats the case, just buy some of those sticky traps that hang from the ceiling. It's much more cheaper that calling an exterminator.

I have dealt with the flies this year too. Only the flies though!! But I will agree that they were HUGE!! I would kill a couple and then there would be a couple more! I killed one and put it in the trash can and it was gone later in the day! Those little suckers are hard to kill. I probably killed around 20 in a week and then they were gone.
Sounds to me like you may need to call the bug man or buy some spray and do it yourself... especially if you have any children at your house... someone could get bit!

Wow, well if your on a budget I would get some fumigator bombs from your local store for about $7 a shot. Usually one treats a 2 bedroom apartment, make sure you get the basement and attic too. I would also look to see where they could be getting in and get something to fill the holes or cracks with. Next could be call an exterminator if that fails. Also they make some products that you can put in your lawn and make a barrier around your house with, these are pellets that with water soak into the ground and last for about 6 months.

If this is not a joke, I may have an odd answer. I worked as a nurse for many years. When we had the big green flies appear, a patient would die. The green flies are attracted to death and decomp. Do you have a garbage can that badly needs to be emptied? Not kidding. For the other insects, call pest control.

If you put some vinegar in a dish ( and a tiny bit of washing up liquid to break the surface tension) then cover the dish with foil - then poke holes in the top just big enough for the flies to get through - they will drop onto the vinegar to drink it but will drown because of the washing up liquid. empty and replace about once a week - the older the vinegar the more attracted they will be to it. I had a problem with these when i had one of those small compost bins in the kitchen so anything like that get rid of .

1. Check that nothing is dead in your home.
2. Make sure that nothing is dead in your neighbor's home.
3. Make sure you aren't missing any pets.
4. Check your crawlspaces for any pets that may be missing (or for the possiblity of missing neighborhood pets)
5. Make sure that all of the garbage is out of your house. (I had a problem with a certain child hiding diapers and was inundated with flies for weeks until I finally found them stuffed behind the dresser)
6. Call pest control.

Call someone to come in and spray inside and outside every 3 months. Make sure there are no openings for bugs to get in, and look around and make sure nothing is dead in your house, (mouse, rat, etc.). Regular spraying (or you can have it done thoroughly the first time then do it yourself every month or two.

Since the weather is getting colder, they may be seeking a protected nesting place. It's possible they're coming in thru walls or ceilings that are not sealed up well. Keep killing them when you find them or you will be making them welcome.

You go to the hardware store and buy one of those bombs that you turn on and leave the house for two hours and when you come back in they will be all gone. But listen a caution... Never kill an insect especially a fly,,, When you kill one three more new ones come to his funeral... Good luck
