harleygirl, why are we doomed?

Doesn't this show us that having sex is NOT the problem? Nor is it evil, or a sin. Just be careful who you do it with, you never know what extra baggage they are carrying, or what little secret gift they may give you. It may be something really good and evil.

On a lighter note: redboomerdog, they don't call Satan, "the snake" for nothin', and it wasn't an apple that Eve pulled, lol.

When the bible speaks of partaking of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you are reading what is called a metaphor. Knowledge of good and evil is a metaphoric reference to judgment. When you judge something you attempt to determine if it is acceptable or not. In effect you are deciding if it is good or evil from your point of view.

Once we were just like the animals and recognized that everything in the garden that God had given us was good. At some point we started to judge some thing as being better than others are. This set up a situation where something’s were more appealing to us than others. We started wishing for these things and were no longer happy with some of the other things in the garden.

This is what is referred to as the fall of man, or separation from God. Some references actually call this the detour into insanity. This self-induced separation from the knowledge of the perfection of god’s gifts to us was never shared by the animals. They were too smart to fall for this silly idea and were not fooled by the ideas of good and evil. For this reason they exist along side of us still experiencing the perfection of the garden. While we have excluded ourselves with our ideas of judgment. This is a truly fascinating subject that has many interesting facets. Including how to reverse the process and return to the original state. If you feel the need to discuss it further send an email.

Love and blessings.

Ok, first off, i'm sorry, second off, I just have to say it...
If the tree is the devil and the fruit is sex....then I think I either just made love to an apple, or the spawn of satan....

;)

Seriously though, I think that if satan was that knowledge of good and evil, satan would have obviously shared the evil part of sexuality, right? So....God said be fruitful and multiply...not, commit sodomy and then be fruitful and multiply..it would have been satan and his "knowledge" that spoke of the evil ways of sexuality, or those construed as evil.
Either way, we know what satan represents, we know whats right and whats wrong, and we have a choice.

Our world-view is shaped by others and this gave rise to this possibility in your mind.

People were pretty sure 70 years ago in India that marrying child brides and burning the widow to death in the husbands funeral pyre was a pretty good thing. The practice crossed language barriers and geologic barriers. Human beings have this stay-the-course gene that is awesomely powerful. I think it is based on very early experience where we admit evidence of the record into our minds without critical examination.

Using an example of a child molester and victim, the harm done by a child molester surfaces again, later transformed sometimes. We notice this behavior because it is an anomaly, but all us us are admitting world-view together, like the burning alive of windows or chopping off male foreskins and we are OK with it because it is present in the past. Some people even make up evidence to keep things the same. That is a role in society.

So there is something in you that associates sex with badness. It was added to your world view and you want to make your religion comply with your world-view. I am sure God wants you to enjoy sex, after you are mature and in a committed relationship.

Why is it that we have to keep re-writing the best book ever written.?

The problem has never been fruit or sex. The problem has always been that we think we are smarter than God.

Why is it so hard to just do what God said? The Bible calls it sin - setting my will over God's. No matter what the setting or what the story, sin has always been the problem.

Just for fun, why not try it God's way and see what happens to your own personal story!!! :)

I was not there at that time - except Adam & Eve.
I wonder if they were interested in writing history for posterity.
So really we do not know what happened.
But if Satan tempted them to have sex, I am sure we can avoid mortality even now, by not having sex.
I do not think that thinking of sex and dwelling on it is a sin - but the act is sin.
We can worship Satan and request that s/he not tempt us.

What if the "tree of knowledge of good and evil"
was a coconut palm
and the fruit was
thoughts of..... "being as equals TO God ?"

What difference does this make
mankind failed the test
and now, we all are in a consist test
because OF it --- and analyzing this "thing"
that happened doesn't change a dang thing
about anything !!!

If that's the case, Satan is just an opposition to God's administration. Heavenly Politics. Every day is election day, Satan campaigns for evil, God is for the good. You cast the deciding vote.

first - it was a fruit... we do not know 100% that it was an apple - that's an assumption. (for those who answered using the term apple)

second... to me the question is making it sound like eve was taking sex from satan. so while god may have told adam and eve to multiply (as earlier suggested), it very well is possible that eve took sex from satan. in which case, eve was a wh*r*, and she deserved whatever came to her.

That's a good question. But in the Book of Genesis....sex was not evil. God told Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply". Having sex would not have angered God, nor would He have forbade Adam and Eve to engage in sex....how else were they to "be fruitful and multiply"?
I hope I've helped.
