If you really want to know about President Washington in his revolutionary and pre-revolutionary qualities, more than simply to complete a homework assignment, let me recommend an excellent book entitled "1776" by David McCullough, Simon and Schuster publishers, 2005. Mr. McCullough has devoted a great part of his book to Mr. Washington and you ought to be able to get a copy of this book at any good bookstore since I believe it was on the bestseller list for a while, and he writes in an easy to read style. Very engaging. I bought mine for $32.00, BUT, if you check into the History Book Club, I'm sure they have an "Introductory" offer of several books for free if you agree to buy one or so in the next few years. I have done this with several book clubs and got some really good books that way at way below market price, like free. God Bless you.

Well for one he had no choice really to lead the Americans into battle. They just gave him the job. One thing I thing that helped was because he fought with the British during the French and Indian War and he saw how much the British didn't care for their looks and such or if they did there was not much dicipline going on. So he had some idea of how the British fought.

I was under the impression that
Washington, when encountering the
British, didn't stand in the straight line
and fire at the same time and then reloading. He used the Indian techniques of spreading out in the woods and
attacking that way. Being a surveryor
probably helped in a good many ways.

He pretty much just ran around the countryside trying to wear out the British, launching sneak attacks and using tactics that were considered "terrorist" at the time.

george washington was a part of a pre ordained plan by God for this country to be successful. If you look at it everything was against him and only a miracle could have allowed victory with the fragile barely supplied army that was assembled.
