Assume 100 g sample
N: 87.5 g / 14 g/mole = 6.25
H: 12.5 g / 1 g/mole = 12.5
NH2; ratio is 1 to 2 (6.25 : 12.5)
answer is a) NH2

NH2

87.5 / 14 (mass of N) = 6.25 mol N
12.5 / 1 (mass of H) = 12.5 mol H

6.25 / 6.25 = 1 N
12.5 / 6.25 = 2 H

empirical formula is N1H2 or NH2
