Is there a question in there somewhere?

As you probably know the engine in an 85 Seville is a pretty big pile of junk. But in spite of that, oil leaks are not really their worst problem. It could be true. Then again, it might be a lie.

if your starter is hitting the oil filter then the bolts are not tight enough to start the car.

if you have the V-8 engine your starter is on the oppisite side of engine than the filter.

take it to another mechanic... make sure they have a blue patch on their shoulder with the letters ASE on it (it looks like a blue gear on a white square patch)

or take it to the dealership....

or you can get under the car and tighten up any bolts you see... most oil leaks are from loose oil pan bolts on both engine and Transmission

If anything is hitting something....it is your "mechanic" hitting the bottle. Take it elsewhere for a better opinion.
