I just call this one SISTER for now, I may never title it, and tomorrow I may burn it, but today I am depressed, for she is gone.

When I was just a little girl,
Somewhere about age five.
My sister told me such a tale,
She was then so alive.

She was a bit more old than I,
Almost four little years.
She told me tales of Daddy's deeds,
And cried a lot of tears.

She told how he came in at night,
Of what he had then done.
The things so bad, the way it hurt,
She wanted then to run.

A time or two he came to me,
And touched me way down low.
For what he did was very bad,
But I just did not know.

I didn't know for many years,
Just what my sister meant.
When I grew up and realized,
My young heart was then rent.

My Father is a memory,
His carcass in a box.
The casket went into the ground,
Sealed with two big padlocks.

He won't get out is what I vowed,
To sister's memory.
The shame and hurt she could not stand,
She set her spirit free.

I guess sometimes sadness really get to us, today would have been her 29th birthday.

Thank you all for your answers, I cries all day, and hoped it would be better today, but I am still crying. I miss her so. Thanks again, I will be better, I'm working on another poem to be inscribed on her headstone. It's probably the hardest one I ever tried to write. I want it to be perfect. Sissy was my best friend ever.

At a time like this, you need someone with you. A friend, a lover, a family member, someone to hold your hand, and hug you while you cry. Someone to assure you that things will be ok, someone to tell you that Sissy is in a happier place. When we lose someone, we grieve for them, but also for us. We grieve for our own loss. I understand that very well. Can you feel this virtual hug that I send to you. Close your eyes and try to feel my arms holding you, comforting and consoling. If I could be there, I'd do it for real.

I tried to write one for my nephew, his big brother who was 12 wanted to honour him at his funeral, but I could not find the words, in the end I helped his brother, and to be honest I could not have doen a better jod than he did. I have not known such a loss as that of my sister, and I hope I never do. There was a time when my own sister could have been writing the very poem you have just written and grieving for me. It was beautiful, and I wish I could be with you when you need someone so much. Take comfort in the knoweldge that we are all here for you on answers, crying with you, holding your hand, and sharing your pain, and most of all thanking you for having the courage to show us this poem, and for letting us (hopefully) give you strength in your time of need. Love and Hugs to you chickadee.

That is a beautiful poem. Even if you do decide to burn the letter (which I found to be ther common), it is still great that you got a chance to let your feelings out, rather than keep them bottled up inside. Stay Strong!

sorry for your loss of sister , i believe it really helps to write about a loss loved one and to write stuff you may have never been able to get out to that person helps . there's nothing wrong with keeping their spirit alive. very good poem sorry to hear what you both went through.
