I'm glad to see someone who cares so much about others at such a young age. Honestly one of the best things you can do is to educate yourself and others as to what is going on in the world. Don't forget what is also happening to the ethnic minorities in the north of Burma not to mention the abuses the come Burmese must suffer daily. Here is a link to a free U-Tube documentary called Burma's Dirty War.

Here is a concrete list of things you can do about the situation in Burma. But one of the most effective things you can do is to vote with your dollars, i.e. stop buying goods from China. Not only is this government extremely repressive itself it is also the largest trade partner and military aid giver to the Junta in power. Take notice of the things you want to buy. You might be surprised how much is made abroad. Believe me if enough people stopped buy their goods they'd take notice and action. Though the are corrupt they have also become extremely nationalistic with the United States being one of their most lucrative trade partners.

Anywho here is the concrete list of things you can do. Remember you don't have to be a registered voter to write letters. Hand written ones go much farther. Maybe even try to schedule a meeting to do some lobbying.

Best of wishes on your endeavor. If you keep the fire alive in your heart to help those who are suffering in mass I believe you will be lead to the most effective measures you can contribute.

Thanks for caring

1. Begin with Prayer (helps to align oneself)
2. Write a letter to the editor
3. Go to local protest
4. Write your federal politicians (Senators and Congressman).
5. Post on the internet.
6. Talk to friends, family, and associates.
7. Print up and pass out informational fliers.
8. Donate & or volunteer to groups that advocate a democratic Burma as well as groups like “Journalist without Borders” who expose what is going on in places were information is hard to get.
9. Call “Myanmar” Burma and “Yangon” Rangoon.
10. Consider the “Myanmar” government illegitimate hostage takers.
11. Save information that is being degraded by saboteurs.
12. Send people links to interesting and relevant information.
13. Create your own online video and put in on places like U-Tube.
14. Leave morally supportive comments where able.
15. Call for trade sanctions and freezing of leaders assets.
16. Call for the revoking of visas for unfit Junta leaders and unfit diplomats.
17. Call to cease the recognition of mafia like states.
18. Call for and support democratic governments in exile.
19. Quell the fire within.
20. Never give up; Never lose hope.
21. End with a prayer of gratitude for one day Burma will be free.

Genocide is defined as the intentional, collective destruction of an entire human group based on national, racial, religious or ethnic identity.

But the problem is this: in order to define genocide, it must have allready happened. The definition is retrospective, in a time when proactive action has to be taken.

But who has the incentive.

Politicians? obviously not.

Voters?

I remember the interview Christiana Amanpur had with President Bill Clinton in the 90´s. She asked her, whether he was at all worried about his presidencial rating as he stood by, watching the Bosnian War with crossed arms. Clinton repplied very cunningly, that he is more worried about her speaking so negatively of him.

But in the end, America did get involved. It is voters and public opinion that make the difference.

But the fact is, that North American voters are isolated from the rest of the world and couldn´t care less. American youth make up 40% of the electorate, but most of abstain from voting. Young people feel little responsibility for the world, but it is they who will possibly decide the future of world afairs.

Shure at 15 I felt young too, and neither can one person feel responsable for all the ugliness in the world, but just being interested about other cultures, their history, which few highschools actually teach.... and possibly getting others tobecome interested is an excellent start. Don´t you think so?

Darfur is only a fraction that has happened....you are too young to remember Rwanda....unfortunately the U.N. is spineless in trying to stop it...and if anyone were to step in to try..they would be called invaders and occupiers.
Not much anyone can do anymore..except hope it ends soon.
Where's Hillary Clinton's pledge to make sure that these things never happen again like she promised back in 1994..or was that just a farce..she was there and saw the bodies lay there rotting where they were murdered. Sad.

Pray that that the ones who have died didn't suffer too much.

Contact your political representative and formally file a complaint against what is now happening in Darfur, Burma, Iraq and other places around the world.

Write or email the United Nations to please intervene, either diplomatically or military-wise.

Good luck.

There are tons of ways to help. Do they have clubs at your school, like Amnesty International? You should join them they're helping the people in Darfur now. You can also raise awareness, tell people you know.

Finish your schooling and start into your chosen career. Keep this kind thought in your mind, and sooner or later you'll find just the opportunity you're looking for.

God bless you and your kind heart.
