What does everyone have against emo people?

I never could figure this out. I'm letting this one be open, just tell me your honest opinon on emos, why you hate them, or why you like them. Post your response, then look at others'.

My favorite type of music is emo too.

I don't get the stereotype. I'm a teacher, so I'm not exactly emo, but I have nothing against those who are.

Edit: to all those who are defining cutting by a certain "group" of people... that offends me. I have personal experience with many cutters (I'm a teacher and a youth leader) and they do not all come from the same group. I hate the stereotypes of cliques anyway, but if I were to define, I've seen preps, goths, emos, skaters, nerds, and everyone in between that struggled with cutting.

Try to refrain from stereotyping a behavior like that to one certain group of people.

In my honest opinion, I think people hate emos because they are so different. People don't understand how a person can hurt themself when they get upset, or whatever else emos do.

Emos are people just like everyone else, and deserve to be treated as such. Now, I agree, some of them even I perfer to stay away from, only becuase it seems like they "overdo" it. But most of my friends are emo (or close to it) and are the best friends I could ever have. They're each so different from each other, so when people say they have no individuality, it shows that they don't know many of them. I mean, sure, they may all dress alike, but their personalities are so diverse.

I'm not emo, I don't hate them though, all the emos I know are actually very nice. Emos are so misunderstood. Not all emos cut, damn even some people who aren't emo cut. Though some people might mistake emos for people who have depression ( Trust me there is a difference, I'd know) though it might so happen that someone with depression listens to emo music, and wear black all the time or emo clothes, whatever you want to call it.
People hate them most probably because of things like their style of clothing, hair, music, and also probably because they aren't afraid to show their real emotions whether it sadness or
whatever.

Not all emos hate everything and are suicidal either, they've been so misunderstood, haha no matter what theres always going to be loads of people who hate emos.
I'd rather be friends with 'emos' than 'gangtas' cuz all 'gangstas' I know are really rude, and mean (and I kinda hate gangsta rap music, it's all usually about h**s and b*****s and killing people and drugs and c**p like that) and have no respect for people.
But I could have misunderstood them, and only seen the bad side of them. Which is the same with emos, my best friend is emo, she doesnt cut herself, she listens to music other than emos music (though i kinda like emo music) and is so far, the nicest person I've ever met.
Though sure, there migh be a side to emos I haven't come across yet, but I know heaps of emos, and none of them are like that. It's like with emo music they say that its all emotional and sad.
I mean look like, go to dictionary.com and search 'music'. The first defanition is
1.an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
Music is all about an artist expressing themselves, telling a story filled with emotion, no matter what type of emotion. So if people don't like a song because its ' emotional' it's kinda silly cuz thats what music is. XD I'm just going on and on now. Ok I'll stop. I've had my say, though everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

nice. but can anyone define emo? then maybe they can start judging as long as they know know an emo. but i believe emos dont cut temselves. they save that for the goths. i guess emos have troubles only theyre close freiend(s) know and thats why theyre the way they are. they have major mood swings. they wear skinny jeans and band tees and chucks and vans and all that good stuff. and they listen to music that sets their mood. i dont have anything against emos. its who they are personality wise that matters. cuz im good friends with someone thats emo and i hate an emo so it just depends.sorry for the explanation.

I don't hate them.

I dislike the music they listen to.
I dislike the fact that they /think/ they're different, but they are clones within their own social group.
I hate the fact they don't seem to have an identity of their own.

I like the fact that they're not always happy, if I'm being honest.
Because who wants to be all butterflies and rainbows 24/7... it gets annoying hehe.


So, i think my biggest issue is the lack of individuality.
Because i can accept that people have different tastes in music... but when you /only/ like music because your friends do, or because that's the "cool" thing to do.. that's where my issue lies i guess.

I hate them, I think it's just cause the fact they're teenagers that haven't even lived their lives yet and they're complaining how rubbish it is already. Just live your life. I understand some people do get like that. But its like an emo trademark and its so annoying.

It is difficult to answer this. Most people think that emo kids are suicidal, depressed and dress all black.
What upsets me is when i tell ppl my fave music is emo they look at me and say "you don't look emo!" How is emo supposed to look anyway?
