Well, I don't know about Amarillo, Texas, but you obviously have never been to Chicago during the wintertime...I made that mistake once, but never again! It seemed like no matter how bundled up I was, the damned wind managed to get in somewhere and freeze my azz...I was literally mummified in caps, scarves, gloves, sweater, and coat the whole time I was there! Jeez!
**I live in Houston, Texas, by the way; and we native Houstonians are not used to that kind of weather at all!**

Chicago is a lot larger and more well known, and being in Texas, Amarillo probably wants a nickname that is more about how big something is or how much better it is than anywhere else.

I live in Chicago and I happen to know that it's the Windy City because of the politicians being windbags.

i replaced into relatively extremely joyful to work out cardioman1965's answer. I took a history of Chicago class and no person ever seems to be attentive to that Chicago did no longer get its nickname through climate.
