Yes, it's HUGELY hypercritical ! Then again we know from past experience how 'civilised' America is allowed all sorts of things that other, 'uncivilised' countries are not (nuclear weapons for example) and if there are any third world wars to be started, well, that's the job of the Yanks too on account of them being so right, so moral and so good at the job !? lol.

Its more than just a touch Hypothetical "Just a touch hypothetical" is just typical British understatement.
The americans went into Iraq after the failure of the EHM " Economical hitmen" failed to convince Saddam to come to the party,, Then the "Jackals" CIA assasins failed to get Saddam . so the next step was war.
In addition to oil and water, Iraq is situated in a very strategic location
. It borders Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, and Turky and it has a coastline on the persian gulf, It is within Missile-striking distance of both Israel and the former Soviet Union.
It is commen knowledge that whoever controls Iraq holds the key to controling the Middle East
Above all else Iraq presents a vast market for American technoledgy and engineering expertise. The fact that it sits on top of the worlds most extensive oil field,.. Well enough said

Nobody is stopping them from defending themselves.
What they are doing is refusing them permission to enter sovereign Iraqi territory, ostensibly in hot pursuit of alleged terrorists.
Northern Iraq is mainly Kurdish and friendly to the coalition, the terrorists or separatists, depending on your point of view are also mainly Kurds who wish to nick a bit of Turkey for a Kurdish homeland. Said Kurds are in fact Turkish by birth and therefore a Turkish problem. Denying Turkey the right of "hot pursuit" is a matter of political and military expediency at present but an agreement will be reached to allow Turkey to follow these insurgents.
You can no longer have good terrorists and bad terrorists. The only stumbling block now is that the Iraqi government wants Turkey to seek permission for each and every incursion and that somehow defeats the notion of hot pursuit.

Northern Iraq is one of the stable areas and the UK and America want it to stay that way. As for Iraq being bombed to pieces you can blame the terrorist for that. If the Uk and America walk out of Iraq today their would be killings.

I would grant you that it is a touch hypocritical, but unsurprising.
It is in Americas interest that the most stable part of Iraq (the northern Kurdish areas) do not become destabilized by the Turkish military.
As such it is not surprising that the United States would urge Turkey not to do anything to give it more problems.

Yes, it's hypocritical, and it's definitely hypercritical, but that's the name of the game with the USA government. Like Victorian parents saying 'Do as I say, not as I do.'
Many, if not most, Turkish Kurds are not PKK supporters. They don't want to be separate, but they also don't want to be treated like second class citizens in their own country. After all, historically (or hysterically) they were living in what is now Turkey before the Turks arrived from western China.

Because its the only part of Iraq which is relatively peaceful and the last thing the US wants is a new problem. I agree it is hypercritical, but is this surprising?
