I'm a little confused by your question. Are the Demasoni to which you're referring the Pseudotropheus demasoni (http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/p_demasoni.php )? While these like some salt in their water, they aren't saltwater fish.

Sea salt should be used to help raise the pH, but you'll only need to add about a Tablespoon per 10 gallons (as opposed to over 1/2 cup per gallon for a marine tank).

Since you aren't going for a full saltwater setup for these, your major costs will be the tank and the fish (which run about $15 each), so I doubt you'll run the costs into the $1,000 range for just the cichlids. See the links below for additional info on these:

In case I misunderstood your question and you're planning a cichlid tank AND a separate saltwater tank, I'm providing a link to a question where I previously gave some info about starting a saltwater tank: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070902174516AAYNU17&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMiTxSWML46AMgPbpZFHXVhtakNbG3Q_CfyzIwbpY_pqGAAPUzwCiKkiJCZRyAdvNQFw--&paid=answered#TJEvXWHuVjiPdq_vEnO4CFUNkgbZREnlEBpUnTPHpU57jJZ.gPoZ

80 gal and $1000 are fine for a saltwater tank. The only problem I see with your question is that the only Demasoni that I know of are Cichlids, and they are definitely NOT saltwater. The are strictly freshwater and would die in saltwater. You might want to do a little research on them before you jump into the hobby and put the wrong fish in the wrong water.
