Telescope, but I also had so many gifts I liked. I got a toy fire-boat from my grandma before she died that was also my favorite for many years.

My mom built me a doll house. We didn't have a lot back then, and she stayed up all night Christmas Eve working on it. A piece of it broke off when she came to wake me up Christmas morning, but knowing that my mom put so much time and effort into something so simple was the greatest gift I've ever received.

It is a toss-up between a "walking doll" that was as tall as me, back then or a pair of white roller arena skates with a case and a pair of fuzzy pink balls to put on them. I am also partial to a pair of white ice skates that I got one year. I loved all of them so much as Christmas gifts. I can still remember jumping up and down with excitement the years that each of those arrived from Santa Claus. :o)

Books, the more the better. I am a voraciuos reader and could go through books like nothing! When I got older, mom and dad and the whole family would get together and get a gift certificate from B Dalton or another book store for like $500. I was in Heaven!~

A doll clothes closet made by my mother and sister out of an old cigar box. They painted and partioned it, put a tiny clothes rod in it, and put some hangers and clothes in it. It way apparent that much time and love was put into this gift. Handmade presents are still my favorite ones.

An Electric Train Set, and a bunch of full-size (minature, but not teensy like today's) Tonka toys: Steam Shovel, Bulldozer, Earth Grader, and Dump Truck. They were inherited by my little brother eventually, and then, much, much later, by my son.
YEARS later; I asked my Mother why I got those. (I'm a girl.)
Her answer was as succinct and concise as always. She said,
"Because you WANTED them." Oh.
There were very few boundries set up in my family because of gender, let me tell ya!
