When people say this--
--If we had WET(white entertainment television) ...we'd be racist.
--If we had a White Pride Day... you would call us racist.
--If we had white history month... we'd be racist.
etc
I understand the point but to me it seems kind of a foolish thing to say.
From what I remember, history classes are basically the history of the rich white guy, unless it is specifically history of another group of people. I don't remember ever learning any black history or womens history except in the designated months.
Not just black people watch BET.
You could call almost every other channel "WET" if you wanted to. Don't get me wrong, I love VH1, but you gotta admit, not really geared to young asians.
I read this question

it kinda made me mad I was wondering what other people thought.

Like you said you are a history MAJOR. they have classes that are specifically black history, african history, etc. In highschool and in the General Education requirements for most colleges you have to learn about American history, and the only things you really learn are about rich white guys and martin luther king jr, as if they are the only things that were important to making this country what it is today.

It would be interesting if there were WET . . . would it treat its subject matter in as insulting a fashion as BET does? People don't know that the worst thing might be to get what they ask for . . ..
Same for 'history month' because if an accurate history of caucasian hegemony were to be told in any month, people of other colors might get permanently angry with anybody white that they might see.
I don't get so angry with people who say things like that, because they are obviously not power figures. They are, believe it or not, probably as discriminated against as minorities are, because the perception that it is white people who engage in repression is mostly wrong; it is a powerful elite that happens to be mostly white which does the repressing, and they do it to all colors, believe me.
Even in the US South before the Civil War, there were a few wealthy landowners who held slaves, and a lot of poor whites whose lives were not much better than the slaves' lives. It is similar today, with big companies importing illegal immigrants as fast as possible to keep wages down and make US citizen employees work in poor conditions or without health insurance under the threat that they will be replaced with the latest version of 'slave' labor.
Keeping people jealous of each other for perceived differences works against all who are not earning $350,000 a year or getting at least $120,000 a year in interest and dividends.
Think about it.

This is a lil bit off subject but, they have BET for a reason. You dont see MTV or VH1 playing the real deep down rap songs. MTV will play the "in the middle songs". So if there was a WET they wouldnt play the black msuic. Also, I have most of the channels, the shows that they have on BET they dont have on any other channel. So why wouldnt they have a BET if no-one else airs the show.......just food for thought...
Also a lot of cultures celebrate their heritage. Hispanic/mexican Cinco De Mayo, Im not a history major, but but I do see some things and that lady needs to shut the hell up....blacks and whites... because ppl like her just cause more problems....Im mixed with both races and Im sick of the black thing being brought up and Im sick of black ppl thinkin that they cant share their plate....im young but I know a thing or two.
Ive also seen white comics and they made plenty a comments/jokes about blacks

Meh, WET is a bad example, although its just the point, calling it 'BET' is inflamatory, its for a specific race, yet blacks spent the civil rights peroid trying to say we are not different, we are human like you, and then you try to seperate from white culture. Although, I have to say good point about the BET isn't for black people, it can actually be pretty funny. One point to make though, if we did have WET and we had white comedian making black jokes like those comedians make white jokes, there would be a riot. As far as history, your argument is way off base, I am a history major and everything is studied now, from, black to hispanic, to women, to poor whites that were previously ignored, to gays. Its really quite interesting too, we were missing out by just talking about rich white guys. I know blacks hate this, but I do agree with the slavery thing, you weren't a slave, I was never a slave owner, you can't blame it on me. What you can complain about is modern day racism, but as soon as you claim because whites used to own blacks that I somehow committed a crime, im going to fight you all the way. Does that mean that because blacks currently have a higher rate of crime that whites, that all blacks should be held accountable for crimes that other blacks have committed? No of course not each person is an individual.
EDIT: If your high school still only teaches rich white history, that is an issue with your school not all schools, my high school taught complete history. In college, general ed at UNC is able to pick pretty much any lower level history class, most people choose American History because it is easy.

i do not pay a lot interest to the Jonas Brothers, yet they do look kinda poopy. Miley Cyrus feels like a self-based total contained in the butt who's purely too grown. (Jonas Brothers look too toddler like.) Who do I hate? Courtney Love is gross and ridiculous. of route anybody hates Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie is disconnected from reality too. female Gaga sucks!!!! She's so gruesome and untalented. it truly is it! it truly is my answer! She had a music about dancing and he or she will't even flow. stupid.

During the rest of the year that is "white history", the whiteness of the individuals we learn about is never called into play. It is taught in a such a generic way that unless we really knew otherwise, Abe Lincoln could've been African-American or Chinese for all we know.
Specifics about white culture (s) are rarely ever taught - this DOES have a damaging effect on how whites view their own culture and self-esteem.
Take the societal attitude, for instance, that claims that white culture is boring and needs to be "spiced up" with minority cultures in order to be interesting, and I believe you'll see my point.
The other months are indeed just generic months, it is not an equivalent of the praise and worship that occurs during the special minority months.

TNN is sort of the "WET" channel. St. Patrick's day is the White pride day. And I don't know the month that is White people month though. Yes, for now Afro Americans basically do not have the same amount of power and influence. I would guess this is why there have been important events set up to celebrate them. Because we feel sorry for having made them slaves and all that. Bless you! ;)

Just reading that question you can tell how ignorant that person is-she can't spell and she has a warped view of history, saying that slavery has been abolished for "100s" of years (the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1862/1863).
I try not to let people like that make me hate-it's sinking to their level.

People like that have small minds and can't see all of history. Of course everything has been all about white people. It's just been the last 30 or so years we've noticed there are other races in our country.

I don't hate it. I think it's great that people express their opinions. My opinion is if WET was THAT important to the Caucasian community, then we would already have that channel on cable. Since there isn't one then it goes to show that people are just running off at the mouth trying to stir up stuff.

I just want to know why is it always the black people being picked on? Are we the only minorities here? I don't think so. And yet, no one ever says anything about other minorities. No one addressed Hispanic Heritage Month, but people will start raising hell in February. Gives you something to think about, doesn't it?
Edit: To the post above me, if you ever went to a live standup comedy show, you would know that white comedians do make fun of blacks.
