My boyfriend and all his friends watch hockey all the time. And I always feel embarrassed since I get confused about the terminology and the rules.. I know it's simple to watch but as with any sport, there's more to it. Does anyone know of any sites or anyone I can talk to who can help me to learn this so I don't feel like such an outsider? Much thanks!

Wikipedia it. It works all the time and if you really are interested it should give you some history on the sport too

I kid you not, there is a "Hockey for Dummies" book out there. It was written by Jay Davidson, who is a former goalie and television analyst, and is currently the General Manager of the St. Louis Blues. I highly recommend it for the novice! It is straight-forward, simple, and fun to read. Check it out!

You might want to learn about a few things rather than try to understand the entire game- that can take years!
Try to brush up on this stuff:
-offside
-icing
-different positions
-defensive coverage
-league stats

But you don't have to get all technical to enjoy a game! Try Wikipedia on this stuff, it's pretty good.

Go to NHL.com The site has a great deal of info on how the game is played. Plus, it has 'you be the coach' tutorials on how plays are made. Have fun.
