Well, Invading aliens hate NFL quarterbacks, so the NFL made a deal, if they promise to not harm any of the fans or other players, they would mark the QB's helmet with a green sticker that has a homing beacon in it. All the aliens have to do is press their handy little QB zapper button and it will home in on the green stickers, ridding the aliens of those pesky NFL QBs forever, but saving all the fans and other players from certain doom!

The green dot is a new rule in effect for the '07 NFL season. The green dot helmet signals that the helmet is wired with a radio for calling in plays..

Its not just quarter backs. Any player with a green dot on the back of their helmet has a radio in their helmet so they can hear the coaches. It's to prevent cheating.

That green dot means that the player is not gay. Not every player has one though.

From what I understand it marks the helmet with the communication capability which is odd to me because one would think that the players wore the same helmet all the time and therefore wouldnt need to have it marked
