You were going 40 miles per hour. If you went for an hour your would travel 40 miles. If you only went for a half hour you would have gone half that which is the 20 miles you asked about.

20 miles in 30 min= 40 miles in 1 hour= 40miles/hour=40 MPH, if that helps
