Price Phister 3 knob (pre-1990) tub faucet leaks/drips cold water. I replaced cold stem twice but still leaks. What else could be the problem? Thx

The replacement stems I rtied both came with a new washer which I used.
By "Facet seat" do you mean what the stemp screws onto? Thats behind the wall and seems inaccessible. But I could feel it with my finger and it appears smooth and uncracked.

it is a tub shower so the center knob is a diverter. When shower runs normally,a fair amount of water flows from the tub faucet so I know that center stem has a problem--but would that be a factor when all knobs are turned all the way off? After all, how could water get to the diverter if the cold water stem upstream is turned off?

ok-i removed the washer seat and replaced it with the one that came with the new stem--I also scraped away some calcified crud around the threads and used teflon tape before I screwed it in tightly. So far that seems to be working--except the last time I replaced the stem itr started leaking after a few hours. Time will tell.

I think it is the washer seat. Some are removable since they have a square or recessed hole in the center on them. You can buy a specialized cheap wrecnn made for that removal. It is an L-shaped square or hex rod that you push into the center hole and turn counter clockwise (water off and stem removed) and take out the seat. Bring it to the store to get a replacement seat.

Others need to be ground down with a specialized cheap metal flat reamer that will go in and let you scrape the seat smooth without taking it out.

You need to check the faucet seat as well as the stem washer. Something could be stopping the stem from seating against the faucet body or the faucet body could have a chip allowing the water to "leak" through.
I would shut off the main water supply. Remove the stem and inspect both the stem washer and seal as well as the seat in the faucet body.

the washing device is undesirable under the valve stem, the chilly water meets indoors the midst of the fixture and is getting pushed by utilising potential of the intense-high quality and gentle area, do away with and take to the hardware or purchase a rubber washing device and replace, washing device sizes decision so be careful and good success.
