He probably still has the remote in his hands. Try to get it away from him anyway...they usually wake up!!

Great Question-always happens to me too!Like the minute you change channels on the TV or turn the TV off they wake up! I used to try putting the volume up on the telly and then flipping the channels which used to wake him up.But the best one is getting a feather and tickling his nose!!
The other option is to keep calling the house phone from your mobile and put it near him so he either has to answer it or is awake. If he answers it I say "Youve won a prize!" And then tell him the prize is making the tea or doing the washing up!
Or I ring the landline and then answer the phone like this..."Hiya no Jonathans asleep....oh thats a shame...I better not wake him up though....i will let him know when he finally wakes up,but hey have a great time" so he has to open an eye and ask me who was calling or the anticipation is excruiating!
LOL Mind you nowadays Im glad he is asleep so I get some me time!LOL

Now, the way in which you wake him up depends on whether you have and want to keep a good, loving relationship with him, or if you can't stand him and you are dying to have him up and leave you.
The way I wake my husband is to walk up close to his feet (he usually falls sleep on the easy chair). If my presence there does not wake him, I move closer and touch one of his feet with my leg softly. If that doesn't work, I touch his toes gently and smile at him when he opens his eyes. (I rather enjoy my husband and we would never intentionally do anything to piss each other off.)
On the other hand, if you hate his guts, you can try and one, or a combination of most of the answers previously posted. You might get some more EVIL ways of awakening him off of YouTube or somewhere else where mean stuff is posted.
(I would wake him up nicely! Maybe with a gentle kiss?)

He probably will be cranky if you wake him up, but pour some cold ice water on him or just scream at him. Poke him in his stomach until he wasked up and tell him to get up or talk to you or whatever it is you need him to do. I do hate guys that fall asleep all the time, especially in the middle of their sentences or cuddling with you or something like that. My baby daddy does that all the time. I usually poke him until he gets mad. Finally I let him sleep and I go on up front and watch tv and then he'll wake up hours later and wonder what's wrong. By that time, I don't even want to talk to him, lol.

Don't bother waking him.
Throw a blanket/quilt over him and go to bed. You can then enjoy the entire bed to yourself, safe in the knowledge he will not wake up because he is cold.

Shave off his eyebrows, draw on new ones with a marker pen, wake him with a kiss and drag him straight to bed.
Let him sleep late and send him off to the pub as soon as they are open tomorrow

Kick him off. Just kidding! Maybe wake him up with a kiss or a hug. Be creative, and tell him to try not to fall on the sofa again in a gentle way.

Cook something really good and he can smell the aroma of the delicious food you just made. He's bound to wake up!

Maybe you should get off the computer for a while,
and pay some attention to him.
