I have never seen this done but imagine it would be to keep monkeys away. Surely a dead snake would stink? We have a lot of monkeys that move through our neighbourhood via their traditional corridor every day and they are very cautious when snakes are around. I have heard tell that they can have a heart attack and die if they come upon a snake unexpectedly. Cannot prove this ... I think it is an "urban legend"
