I got a sponge filter for a 2 1/2 gallon betta bowl. I have the air pump but the bubbles are too large. And the intake tube for the sponge isnt big enough for an airstone to fit through. So waht should i do? Bettas dont like alot of movement and these big bubbles move the water alot

You could put a small glob of hot glue on the end of the tube then gently poke a hole with a pin small at first then test it and make it larger depending on the type of results you want.

Here is the deal! You will need an airpump if you want bubbles, regaurdless. The coolest bubbles you can get are from the wooden air blocks. They are used for protien skimmers in saltwater tanks. They look like the blue air stones at wal-mart but they are made of wood. You should be able to find them at you rlocal fish store or pet-smart has them. They create a very fine colum of very small bubbles and look way better than the big ugly bubbles that come out of air stones.

Get a plastic air valve (http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10420/product.web ) and use it in the airline between your air pump and the waterline in the aquarium. They're cheap, and allow you to adjust the amount of air going through the tubing so the bubble size and, more importantly to your betta, the amount of surface disturbance.

you can get small clamps to place on the air line, there in all the pet shops and you can gently screw it shut and alter the amount of air coming through, its easy and not too fiddly!!
