Does anything have to be changed besides the motor? Any special pressure switches or valves and if so, where can they be bought?

you will need some way to control the gas engines output, maybe some kind of clutch

Just put an engine on it. Take off the electric controller that goes in the tank and replace it with a controller that you can find at a parts shop that sells compressors. You also need a automatic throttle control cable that connects to the controlller. It ain't that hard. Done it ma;ny times.

try it with out and just put a pulley on it. Start the gas engine off slowly then increase your throttle. It should work without needing a clutch.

yes you have to change some stuff. check with your local rental shop if they have a gas powered air compresson they will know where to get the parts you need.

You might be better off to buy an electric generator.
