With 19 amps on the +12V rail, I bet it could run the 8600GT all day long. 8600GT draws less than 4 amps on the +12V rail.

I was able to run and even overclock a factory overclocked 8600GT on a Coolermaster power supply with just 16 amps on the +12V rail. It was stable running OCCT, 3D Mark 05 and 06 several times and playing COH.

With a High-end card like that, I would not use a 300watt power supply! You need plenty of uninterrupted power for all you PC components.
Get yourself a nice decent power supply with an individual 12 volt rail specifically for the video card. If the power isn't sufficient it can cause alot of damage to other components as well including the motherboard. I wouldn't reccommend anything less than a 450 watt to be on the safe side. I found a nice Ultra-Connect VS 700 watt for $90.00. Remember, The power supply is the heart of the machine so the more stable the power, the better off your pc and it's components will be.

you want to be more desirable in contact with the 12v rail amps truly than the wattage. yet in case you purchase a PSU with say 25 to 30 amps on the 12v rail you receives the wattage as an advantage. So 20+ amps on the 12v rail is what you're looking for.

It depends on which one you have. Looking at the EVGA website, there are 3 video cards that match your description.

The e-GeForce 8600GT 512MB requires at least 350 Watts of power, so you will need a better power supply for this one.

The e-GeForce 8600GT Superclocked 256MB requires at least 300 Watts of power, so this one could work, but its pushing it.

The e-GeForce 8600GT 256MB requires at least 350 Watts of power, so you will need a better power supply for this one.

There are 3 possible cards listed above. You are looking at one of them. Find which one you want, and answer you own question.

Hope that helps.
