Usually, as a test for carbon dioxide, one uses aqueous calcium hydroxide solution (lime water). It changes to milky white when carbon dioxide is introduced.

An indicator will change color when exposed to CO2. The pH will be altered by the CO2 and an indicator will show this change. To find a specific indicator to use you will need to look up the pH range of the different indicators you have on hand.
