how do you paper mache a styrofoam ball?

There are a few ways, like soaking paper in glue or liquid starch, or using pre-made plaster gauze, or dipping paper in plaster, or using flour... basically you want to get something to harden around a sphere. I just plastered an inflatable yoga ball, which was a bit of a challenge (Inflatable balls expand and contract with temperature change). But, using a styrofoam ball I would go with that plaster wrap, it is pre-made, pretty cheap and hardens like a rock. ( www.art-alternatives.com ) After that liquid starch works well, I use Vano starch. It comes in a bottle and is very easy and cheap. Well, hope this helps. Good luck!

Soak narrow strips of newspaper in the glue so they are less likely to crumple and apply like you are winding yarn around the ball.

The simplest way,is use a white glue and water mix (equal parts)and you can use napkins or newspaper strips to cover the ball.Let it dry usually over night and you're done.
