I go to Seton Hall which has decent sports teams (our basketball team is really good) and I was walking past the field the other day since it's really close to campus and I saw the baseball team practicing. I've always wanted to play baseball, but I've never been on a team before. Am I crazy to think that with some practice I could walk on to the team? Even if I don't get to play I would still enjoy the experience....

To expand: I don't even care about "making it big" or "being the star"...I just think it would be fun, hey, you only live once right?!

That would be very very hard to do, especially since you have never played on a team before. There are plenty of high school players who were all-stars and the best player on their team and they didn't even get looked at to play at the next level.

But, if you can get in a lot of practice and maybe talk to someone associated with the team, you never know what could happen. I'm sure there are major leaguers out there right now that were walk-ons to their college teams...

By the time players get to college they have accumulated years of valuable experience playing different levels of baseball. Even if you have exceptional hidden talent for the game it would be very difficult for you to compete. It takes years of seeing 90mph fastballs to become a good hitter, and you would not be able to pick it all up in time to make the team. I give you credit for wanting to try but I don't believe you would have a chance to walk on and make the team.
