Pick one:
--Crash Test Standards. This is actually the "official" excuse from what I understand of the articles out there about the MDI car. The vehicle's body was built to be extremely lightweight and so it doesn't really have much of a prayer when it comes to U.S or even the more stringent European crash tests.
--Looks. Most cars that are at the car shows are these sleek, ultra-glossy prototypes. By comparison, the MDI car looks more than a bit like a converted golf cart, because there's not a whole lot else you can do with an ultra-compact car body built to be a two-seater.
And I understand that an air-powered hybrid model is being built for American markets that addresses both of these issues. ^_^ Which leaves:
--Big Oil says NO. Really, this one cannot be underestimated. Big Oil's sway over U.S. automakers was critical in getting General Motors to kill off their EV-1 electric car. Likewise, that sway is also keeping U.S. automakers from doing anything *decisive* to compete with Toyota and Honda's hybrids.
I mean, really...electric and hybrid vehicle technology is *not* new by any stretch. We could have had functional hybrids on the streets in the 1980s. But Big Oil said no, and used their sway over automakers and the media to make it so.
So there's your answer really.
Big Oil doesn't *want* people to drive cars that run on compressed air, because they *know* the design works, and works better than 95% of the battery-driven electric vehicles out there.

OK, compressed air has the same problems as battery powered vehicles. You need to charge up your tanks often and how many places have the equipment to compress air to the very high psi you need to go anywhere. I would check your information out, something doesn't sound right. They say they have got around the laws of physics some how.
