Last I heard, I5 is still closed in both directions until the fires are put out & the tunnel can be inspected. You can also check any local news outlet in Los Angeles besides channel 9, depending on your tastes. I agree with caltrans.com & contacting the CHP on their non emergency line. If you cannot wait, find an alternative route that avoids the area period. Good luck!!

The below source is the link for the web site of Channel 9 in Los Angeles. They have the current information displayed. MSNBC is headquartered in New Jersey. You're lucky if they can even find the Newhall Gap on that freeway.

They're still counting the dead. Use an alternate route or call CHP yourself.

they are the most reliable update for this sort of disaster they will tell u about freeway closures/openings up to date hourly

don't think it's open yet.

The heat from the intense fires in the tunnel will close it indefinitely,it has to be inspected first.
