I know awhile back, someone was experimenting with submerging the insulated wire in liquid nitrogen, then vibrating or crushing the wire till all of the insulation fell off. I witnessed an example with the rubber eraser on a pencil. After submerging it in the liquid nitrogen, it crumbled into a powder when hit with a hammer.

I don't know whatever happened to the final trials.

Last time I visited in Oregon I was talking with the next door neighbor (he's an electrician) as I saw him stripping wire for recycle. He was just doing the big stuff. When I asked him how he did the small stuff he said his scrap dealer was taking it with the insulation left in tact. Paid a little less but better than banging your head against a wall trying to strip it.

Check with the scrap guys, heck I bet you could get the info right off the web.

Why are you spending time and resources to do once what the recyclers do every day? There's no way that could be a good tradeoff.

#1 - you should not burn the insulation as it is toxic for free scrap metal prices and info go to Demolition, Scrap Metal and Salvage News or Dallas Contracting Co., Inc.
