Make it simple. Ham with Pineapple is one of my favorites. Sausage and onions and peppers are great. If it is only the toppings you mentioned above, then go with onions and mushrooms. The trick is when you order it, make sure they saute the mushrooms first if they are using canned. If not, your pizza will be very wet.

ok this is going to sound particularly unusual yet my all time fav pizza toppings are purple onions and pineapple. Why no longer test? make a million/5 pineapple and onion, and then the different 4/5 of it distinctive toppings that others advise?

Pizza isn't supposed to be a sheet of cardboard on which you pile toppings like a hod carrier.
It's supposed to be a hot bread. You can get away with pepperoni because it's sliced so thin, the heat can still get in and cook the top of the crust, but even pepperoni is a bad idea. The perfect cheese pizza is the perfect pizza.
Sounds like you've never had a really good pizza.
