If someone says they hear someones voice in their head repeatedly or rarely. And if that voice could someone that person knows very well like his or her parents or sisters or relatives or friend or even a stangers voice. If very young people hear voices in their head and they end up doing harm to themselves or to others I can see that because they are too young to know the difference and its meaning. But why do adults hear such voices and end up doing what they say eventhough it is very understandable that that voice is telling to do physical harm. What is it that makes that person actually believe in that bad advice from the voice? For example, the person who can hear what the voice actually wanted to or have slight intention or thinking due to anger or enmity feels like killing someone and he or she is obsessed about it and finally does what the voice says as if it is true?

that is a very interesting question and one that i have been contemplating about for a long time. as someone already mentioned, when someone hears voices (or in other words, when they have schizophrenia), they sound very real, just like when you listen to your friends talk but this time 'your friends' are not there. it often invokes fear and mental distress: imagine if you are told that you are worthless and should just go kill yourself 24/7 by an invisible little voice. providing that to get a psychosis, one has to be really distressed at the first place, it is perfectly understandable that they would give in after a while.

further, schizophrenia is a degenerative mental disease, apart from the delusions and hallucinations the patient would suffer, his/her other cognitive functions especially judgment would also be impaired.

lastly, there are some very interesting researches suggesting that, the auditory hallucinations are actually the person's inner speech (i.e. our thoughts), but their temporal lobe (responsible for inner speech and hearing) is super activated so they would perceive their inner speech as people speaking. so. if one thinks that he should cut off his leg, it is no longer a matter whether he should or should not take bad advice.

but keep in mind, people with schizophrenia don't always harm themselves despite that they may constantly hear voices that tell them to do so. whether they take the voices' 'advice' or not depends on factors such as whether they know of their conditions, how serious their conditions are, and whether they are depressed. hope my answer helps.

If it was just the voice alone I'm sure they wouldn't ,,But its usualy accompanied by the rest of the stuff that goes with the being OUT THERE , the TV is not intertaining them and seems to be only for them , the radio is playing only to them they believe that the whole world is thinking only of them ,, and the coincidence factor is so high that , every time they try to speak some one will interupt them or cause some other distraction ,, it all adds together to create the monster , the monster is not one thing alone ,, their smarter then that , arn't you , their just like you only their thinking from all points , some call it bipolar it's when more then one hemisphere is being used for a single thought ,,

Because, as hard as it is for us "rational minded people" to understand, some people really DO believe they actually hear voices in their heads telling them to do things.

The most famous one I can think of was Joan of Arc...and she was burnt at the stake for heresy. Now, granted, her voices told her to do GOOD things, but, even when she saved him and was insturmental at assuring his assuming the throne of King of France, even the Dauphin took his support away from her and allowed her to die in such a horrible way.

The voices seem very real and are usually relate to some other sort of disorder, if your mind isn't right to begin with and you hear voices your more likely to belive they are real and that they will harm you if you don't listen

Psychic activity like that, is like any other thoughts, only vastly more vivid, and often that causes sensory overload. There’s nothing wrong with negative thinking, even very loud negative thinking. Thinking and action are not the same thing. Even sheer negative thinking is often like saying “I hate you to someone I really love.”
