"As American as Apple Pie"
There's nothing American about it. The Brits took Apple Pie to America. We've been cooking it here since the 14th Century.
Can you think of anything that has a positive coonotation that the American could refer to? Like As American as a Cola for instance.

Thomas, you poor soel. Go back to school son.
Apples were introduced to America by the Dutch and English settlers. The English had been baking apple pies since the days of Chaucer.
I have found hundreds of sites referring to this saying, and they originate from the US.

Look there's one now^
This has nothing to do with any put down, it's just an observation. So to all that have taken a defensive/offensive standpoint. I pitty you that you should be paranoid about such a trivial yet interesting subject.

The entire saying is "It's as "American as Chevy and Apple pie". Since we dumped your tea in Boston Harbor, we had to use something from across the pond . He he.
How many Chevy's has UK built?
Say hello to Nigela Lawson for me.

Because of the song "Bye-bye miss American pie" or something like that. Chill dude, and American as Cola would be sexier. And if you're going to get like that, American pie doesn't make any since because the real Americans are the Native Americans and we're just the kids of European immigrants. O wait, the Natives came from Asia... So why isn't it "As Asian as Apple Pie"? Of course the oldest human bones were found in Africa so wouldn't it be "African pie"? This answer makes no sense, the point is it's pie and it's good and I don't think I've ever heard the saying "American as Apple Pie".
Why did I get thumbs down?? Those better be from trolls or I'm going to be one unhappy person.

Well, I've also heard the saying "As American as Mom and apple pie" and I don't think we've cornered the market on moms either.
As American as the Grand Tetons? No that's french - and it means 'big t*ts'
As American as Democracy? Shoot, Rome got that first. Sort of.
Beats me.

Wait a minute are YOU sure you have your FACTS right? So, you are saying apples are not native of America?? Now, I'm not saying that Apples were found only in America, are YOU saying they were native only in Britian? Oh, by the way I'm not a huge fan of Apple pie anyway!! George didn't chop down an apple tree, just kicked King Georges @SS!! But only once, then James Madison kicked
his son's @SS!!

It took off after a car manufacturer used it as part of an ad campaign.........'As American as Baseball, Apple Pie and Chevrolet'....
Tomatoes were indigenous. Certain wild game. I agree with the cola, however, Coco Cola is known worldwide.

Since the English colonies that settled in American formed pies of all sorts during the beginnings of "America" then I say the phrase is quite suitable. Although...the phrase "As American as apple pie..." has almost nothing to do with the pie itself anyway.

They don't, it's "Moms apple pie", as in a cafe/diner, pushing to sell "homemade" goodies.
Wooley:
Chevrolet aka General Motors aka Vauxhall has been building vehicles in the UK for decades, can't tell you how many but it's millions.
Edit again:
Thomas,
Re: apples in the USA, look up Johnny Appleseed aka John Chapman if your interested in apples.
And again:
Jill,
democracy, ancient Greek idea, Romans didn't do it.
