In general behavior, predictability is a form of being polite and as you say, it is reassuring. But when it comes to matters of thought, I don't like thoughtless habitual answers, because what matters is being in touch with the issue in an alive manner.

No - cliche's don't bother me. In fact they are re-assuring to me in some ways. One advantage: You know there are some truths that people want to live by. Even if they aren't actually truths it makes life more predictable. Advantage 2: Cliches make it easier for the more intelligent people to 'pitch' ideas in words that wide audiences will get.
Disadvantage: Cliches make it much easier for people to pitch dumb ideas in words that wide audiences will happily turn into zealous mantra.
So I guess the answer is take in small doses and see your physician if pain persists.
And no, I don't think your question's a cliche. I'm glad you ran it up the flag pole to see who salutes :-)

People fall back on old habits of behavior, or repeat what they've learned from others, because it's simpler than thinking.
Other times, they rebel against parents/authority/someone they just don't like; if that person goes one way, the rebel will go the opposite way, for no reason except to be opposite -- again, acting without thinking.
What is difficult is to think for yourself, considering several possible courses of action, listening to others without being ruled by them ... and then deciding on the best thing to do, not just for themselves but for the people they affect as well. It's hard to do properly, which is why so few people do it.

Cliches are helpful when making decisions that pertain to other people. I don't like them very much, but I admit, they are useful. Still, I absolutely love it when someone is able to shatter all my preconceptions about them. Everyone loves an anomaly.

Not bothered because perhaps that is exactly what they think of me , but that is predictable, also.
