If you disagree with someone you shouldn't call them names. You can state to someone that they are a homophobe if you are a homosexual and the other person is afraid of you.

I hate the word "homophobe". Homophobe means fear of the same.
The bastardization of its use today means fear of homosexuals. Homo is a derogatory term for homosexuals.

Homophobe is appropriate if an individual is negative about homosexuals, but is in reality gay.

A heterosexual who fears homosexual culture is a "Xenophobe".
He fears that which is different. It is also applied to racists.

If you disagree with someone and call them names, you really need to look at your values. It's ok to disagree, it's wrong to attack verbally or physically.

No. That's the same as pulling the race card. A homophobe fears homosexuals. Someone who disagrees with you may not fear homosexuals. Use the word correctly if you intend to use it at all.

In my opinion, it is never ok to throw words like that around. It only encourages immature behavior and cause more trouble than intended. Calling someone a homophobe stoops to a level of immaturity, and no one wants to be at that point.

It's better to be a step ahead of them and say, "Ok, let's agree to disagree."

If i can put it like this - if someone has called you a homophobe b/c you disagreed with them - no it's not right in my opinion. We are all intitled to our opinion without insults or mis-judgements being thrown at us.
Always stand up for what you believe in and don't accept labels ppl try to put on you.

Not sure I understand the question... but just because someone disagrees with homosexuality doesn't mean they're a homophobe. I take 'homophobic' to mean that one hates homosexual people.
If someone has a problem with the homosexual lifestyle but not the person, I don't think they're homophobic.
However, if they hate the lifestyle AND the person, then I reckon they're homophobic.
'Phobia' means fear... but for most people nowadays homophobia doesn't mean fear of homosexuals... it just means a dislike of and aversion to them.

A homophobess is someone who is afraid of homosexuals. so just because you do not agree with him is no reason to call him a homophobe. One has nothing to do with the other.

Only if they express a fear of homosexuals. That is the definition of homophobes. Personally terrapin is a better form of insult.

You mean just because you want to call them that or because they are afraid of gay people?

If you disagree, then tell them you disagree, if you resort to calling them any names that just makes you look immature. An adult won't be taken seriously if they start in on name calling, why would anyone else?
