I like it a lot!!! I know a lovely gentleman who lives in Italy by that same name, and hes one cool cat, lol.
As for middle name, it would depend on the last name - gotta have some flow...

Matteo is a great name! Very un common but not crazy off the wall! Good strong name. Will be cute when he's a baby but still very "adult" for when he's older.
Matteo Alan
Matteo Daniel
Matteo Lee
Matteo Conner
Matteo Walter
Dig around in family history and try each and every name...also play with the names a little bit if you have a Darryl try Darren things like that. Make a list and play with it! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, congrats on the baby and I wish you a safe and healthy delivery!

I think it's a great name and agree with the person who suggested a middle name starting with R. Matteo Roland sounds good.
Nicknames depend a lot on the boy's personality as well as the personalities of the people closest to him that initiate those names. Matty is a cute name for a baby. But so it Teo and that would last through life if he likes it, while Matty will likely seem immature after a while.
It's a great name with lots of variety.

Matteo doesnt seem nearly as stodgy as Dante. But then again I'm biased, I have this crush on this really cute guy named Matteo... Ah who cares, I think it's a great name. You can use it to stay in touch with your Italian heritage, or he can just call himself Matt and be more mainstream if he wants. Good best-of-both-worlds name. And Matteo is cute.

That name is gorgeous! Congrats! I would keep that name in consideration. It's very masculine and the meaning behind it is one that I'm sure he'll love to tell when he's older. I like Alexander as a middle name but I'm not sure if it really goes with Matteo or not.

Matteo reminds me of Tomato for some reason.
Anyways, my name is pretty close to that, so I think it should be fine if you gave the name Matteo.
I'd rather have Matteo than Apple (Coldplay's Child) <- 'tard.

I know a Matteo and his middle name is Gianni. He's 100% Italian. His entire family has beautiful names.
Other names could be Luca, Giovanni, Carmine, Domani.

Matteo James ? people will call him by the name you call him. if you call him and introduce him as Matteo then others will do the same, if someone doesn't then you gently correct them.

I like it-seriously and the meaning is nice, and the name isn't hard to pronounce,I do think people will end up calling him Matt for short though-not that there is a problem maybe he could ask to be called Matty by others.
As for middle names how about Duncan,Aaron,Liam,Millan,Anthony or Lucas.
