My brakes have been squeaking a bit lately. Any answer will be valuable to me as I'm know very little about cares. Thank You for any help that you can give me. Gary

The cable probably needs grease. Disconnect it at the transaxel and try it. If it's still stiff, clean it and grease it with lithium grease. You may have to replace the cable. Your local auto supply should have one. Otherwise your local Ford dealer will have one.

You'll probably have to lube the shifter cable---inside the sheathing of the cable--- or replace it. Also, if you've had any engine work done, make sure the engine grounding wires are ok and attached properly.... we use to replace a lot of shifter cables because of bad engine grounds where the engine will try to ground through the shifter or accelerator cables and the arcing will seize them up.

Sounds like you have water inside the shift cable and it's freezing up, that is if it's going below freezing where you are.
