Get your wallet out. It will be an expensive repair and should be diagnosed by a qualified mechanic. Dont go to the dealer. They charge 30% more than the average repair shop.
It is most likely emmisions related. You can keep driving without breakdown. but it should be repaired for besy fuel economy and for the environment.

hi
what you need to do is get it to a auto zone to find out the error code it might be big or a minor problem then from there you will know what is wrong with your car. if you took the fuel cap off and drove with it off it will be on for alittle bit and then shut off . I hope this help you.

If your car says service engine that could just simply mean to get on oil change. It wouldn't hurt to check you fluids. Could be something minor. I had a 1999 Monte carlo and the light would come on when an oil change was due, and I had to reset it. In my manual it told me how to reset it.

You will have to get the vehicle to a repair center with diagnostic equipment. Don't drive the vehicle until you find out the problem.
