in my '97 grand prix-the blower works on all speeds, only when the car is started with the automatic start, however when the car is started manually(turning the key)- it only works on high, is this a ground problem?

Becuase of the way the remote start is wired,it supplies power to your blower control head through the remote start module. When you start with the key, your ignition switch should supply that power and it sounds like it isnt. A GM dealer could test this condition in about a half an hour. I have worked on many of these kinds of problems at 3 different GM dealers.

Whoever installed the remote start tapped into the blower circuit improperly...the blower runs on the lower speeds through power to the dash switch and then through a blower resistor. High speed is controlled by the switch and a separate relay. Sounds like the blower resistor is bypassed or not powered somehow without the remote start. Take it back to the installer or have a dealer look at it.

ouch, hope you can fit into a small box? The blower resistor is bad. Its located under the dash and behind the glove box up from the passenger side foot well. Very hard to reach even for a small person . Its just above the blower motor and takes a good contortionist to get at the three screws that hold it in. You might even have to pull the carpet and foam padding away. Its about 40 buck from the dealer but cheaper at an auto parts store, they will be in stock!
