No, you don't need an importers licence - you will need to have a very large bank balance, though. And be willing to make a loss.

Why? Well, for a start, import duty, VAT and brokerage charges will add about 30% to the price of the bike (including the freight charges).

So let's say for example, you pay £5,000 for the bike and it costs you £1,000 to ship it over here. You will have to pay around £1,800 in fees just to get it into the U.K.

As you are a private importer and not a business, every bike you bring in will need an SVA test to get registered. This will cost around £750 for each bike.

So, your £5k bike has actually cost you a total of £7,550. If you intend to sell for a profit, you will find an equivalent H-D in the U.K. for the same price. So, you will make a loss.

Unless it's a really rare or unusual machine, it's simply not worth it...

those motorcycles more often than not ought to no longer in basic terms proper buys. For the money you've were given to spend and nonetheless get a constructive motorcycle look at Kymco and Hyosung they make a one hundred and twenty 5 it really isn't any longer top the following contained in the states. i'm no longer particular the position you possibly and haven't any advice the replace value funds to kilos. those manufacturers are more cost-effective than the large jap motor agencies and in basic terms as in basic terms proper. they do no longer look to be from china.

It used to be real easy but probably isn't anymore.
I don't know anyone making money doing it and the people I know who used to are no longer interested.
Personal imports are one thing but a commercial import/export may be difficult due to customs, shipping etc. (one guy I know of almost went bankrupt as he had to get a container shipment from Germany after it had been diverted from Dover)
The tax man will take great interest if you decide to get one bike a month
