i think both libs and cons can agree that waving the confederate flag (a symbol of betrayal to the union) is one of the most anti-american things anyone can do.

I believe that when President Lincoln stole the States rights that he should have been charged with Treason. I am not for Slavery at ALL. But then again the Civil War was not really fought mainly on the issue of Slavery either. Read your History and you will see that it was much more about the Federal Government trying to (and succeeding) grasp control of issues that should have remained in the individual States domain. Our Country was not founded to be controlled by the Federal Government. READ YOUR HISTORY.

No, it is not treason same if someone was waving the union flag. These individuals are looking for attention & enjoy a good argument - - ignore them. They just haven't matured to the fact that both sides are American & should be prouder of the US flag.

The "Stars and bars" is as irrelevant as the "Union Jack" it was designed on. I don't see how anyone can get excited about a flag that hasn't represented anything for over 130 years. Let them wave it. If people would stop complaining about it, nobody would think of anything but the "General Lee" car on the Dukes of Hazard.

Silly, silly comment.

That flag and it's supporters are no threat to anything at this late date. The Confederacy was crushed nearly a century and a half ago and it can never rise again. If the backward and uncouth among us are so kind as to identify themselves to all by waving or wearing that flag, LET THEM.

Not as long as foreigners can wave their flags here while burning ours. Not while they can turn our flag upside down and fly theirs above it (on government buildings!) without punishment. This is a much bigger threat than your example.

And how about just no period? It is a part of out history, and recognizing that is not treasonous.

It has no longer something to do with conservatism or liberalism. there is no denying its a emblem of slavery to maximum human beings and why maximum human beings oppose the flag getting used as a State or Federal image. All it does is make healing racial modifications that a lot harder, there is already sufficient politicians and so noted as leaders who use race as a wedge.

No, I believe some great Americans died in that war honoring that particular flag. That being said the Stars and Stripes should always fly above them all.

They were protecting their states on the values and ideas of which the nation was born, the union wanted to change that. It's a veiw of perspective. Slavery was a big reason for the downfall, but there were not in rebel to the nation, but to the Union.

The idea before the Civil war was that each state could govern itself, the Union wanted to change that, and they did. To completly understand you have to understand how the nation used to be, not how it is today.

In theory, I agree that they should all be hanged. In practice, their cause lost so they are harmless. Also, they are keeping alive a martial and gentlemanly spirit that is often lacking in USA today.
Probably the answer is more beer.
How do you think patriotic Britons feel when they go to Scotland and see that laughable sideways blue flag everywhere?

True that. However, I wouldn't go as far as charge them with treason. One quick "You're an idiot" usually does the trick.
