After extensively researching all anti-virus products I can say the best anti-virus is Kaspersky, though NOD32 is better for computer experts. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 runs faster and has less software conflicts but as a consequence the user interface is difficult to use.
The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.
It has been proven ESET NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (see the consumersearch source for reviews of the top anti-virus products). NOD32 is the "Best anti-virus product of 2006" -Av Compartives.
Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you're having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three.

Norton?
You people having a Laugh....
AVG has been proven to be more affective to defend your computer and to also detect more Virus's than Norton.
its free aswell. And works on XP & Vista with little CPU usage!

Proper configuration will always be the best protection.
For example, setting an ACL that denies execute/traverse permission for the local settings folder essentially makes your computer immune to malware... disabling external services will prevent all internet worms...
Although, I'm guessing you want to be lazy... Just install IE7, Nod32 for an antivirus, and use the Windows firewall.

webroot Spysweep with anti-virus..they continually update and are located in Colorado...if you need help they will help..I have used this program since they came out with it...It is far superior than most any other out there...just type in Webroot Spysweep...Better to get it from them as most stores only have the 5.5 version and they already have the 5.5.7 version...Be sure and get the anit-virus with it...doesn't cost that much...Sure saves lots of headaches and if you have a problem they will help at any time of the day or night by e-mail...or call through monday-friday and you will get them by phone..Sure hope this helps...but, do give it a try...you will like them...Most computer experts...mine has 35+ years experience and he always recommends this .....
