reading people is a critical skill for sales jobs.

If you do not already have this skill, you need it.

A few people acquire the skill growing up (our younger daughter has it). My guess would be about 10% of Americans, maybe.

The rest of us might be well advised to look into either or both of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and/or Process Communication.

Both of these two branches of psychology seem well researched and partly directly pertinent to selling.

Try the cheap way first ... books. I'd not recommend the multi-hundreds to thousands of dollars training courses until after you know if the methods seem suited to you -- and you've got a commission selling job which will let you make your money back.

Listen very carefully. Never interrupt the buyer when they are telling you what they want.
