The Explosives (Fireworks) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 came into operation in May 2002 and require a person who wishes to possess, purchase, sell, acquire, handle or use fireworks to apply to the Secretary of State for a licence.
From that date, any garden fireworks found in the possession of anyone without a licence, other than a legitimate trader, will be illegal and could result in a fine up of up to £5,000.
