Not sure but I have a free version of zone alarm virus protection on my pc and also my laptop and it seems to work great. A young computer guru installed it for me and he swears by it as being the best out there. He said he uses it and it stops more intrusive invasions than Norton, AVG, or any of the more popular programs people use every day. He said he cleans up viruses and repairs damage caused by viruses etc on computers every day where other anti virus programs have failed to protect as expected. You can download the free version from the internet. Just google 'zone alarm' or type it into whatever search engine you use and download the free version and run it and let it do its thing. Who knows but at the least it will help from most future intrusions including hackers, spyware, worms, trojan horses and most all viruses. Once you install it you don't have to do anything on a regular basis even though you can activate it anytime you want it will automatically check and clean your system as per your settings. You will see a small 'Z' icon in yout tool tray at the bottom of your screen once you have it installed. You can monitor the results anytime you want simply by double left clicking that icon. Once the full screen comes up you can do a scan and clean also if you wish. It's pretty awesome especially for free. Good luck.

Sounds like possibly your browsers has been compromised and being redirected. This is not good. You do not want a hacker or anyone going to bad web sites at your expense. A first rate firewall; antivirus; and spyware protection is not an option these days, they are a must if you go online. Run your antivirus check; and if it has check specific like browser run; do it and see what shows up. Some antispyware actually spys on you, so be sure to get something good: Webroot Spy Sweeper with antivirus is very good; Spyware Doctor is also very good but does not have antivirus protection with it. If you have Vista format then Webroot would be my choice.

I had a trojan in my computer a couple of weeks ago, and asked for help here. I tried a free trial of Norton 360, it did nothing, I tried several programs suggested, but the one that worked for me, was AVG antispy, it is free for 30 days, then goes to the free version, if you don't buy it. It cleaned up my computer, but before trying it, I was trying all these other things, and was about to tear my hair out. I had used the AVG antispy before, but it wasn't finding anything. Probably because I didn't have anything on there. www.grisoft.com. I had forgotten how to use it, so when it found the infection, I deleted it before I looked to make sure I had it. There is a place on there before you delete, to look to see where it is, do that. It has been scanning clean now, for over a week.

Messenger--
same thing as above
these are ports left open in the XP windows version but closed in Vista.

SECURE
when you buy a computer, the security settings are less than satisfactory,SPECIALLY if you have XP Home for the operating system [ aka os ].
Vista is more secure but it too needs security updating. in addition,i've added how to get rid of several naggers like the delete confirmation dialog box [ do you really want to del;ete this item/ ] and error reports [ do you want to send MS an error report? like they care! ].
Internet Options:
start
control panel
internet options:
general:
history:
clear and set days to keep to 0
temp files:
clear
Privacy:
advanced
override
check:
allow 1st party cookies
BLOCK 3rd party [ tracking/spyware cookies ]
Advanced:
now, here is where Vista has it all over XP!
under ActiveX,Vista doesn't even show this catagory.
XP on the other hand needs to disable the following:
uncheck or disable:
unsigned
unsafe
automatic prompt
Browsing:
disable:
display notification of every cript error
reuse windows [ forcing new window to open ]
use inline autocomplete
check:
notify when downloads complete
Printing:
check print background colors and images IF you use a printer, otherwise uncheck
Search:
check display results in main window
Security:
uncheck:
allow active content to run [ 2 ]
allow invalid software to run
check/enable:
empty temporary internet files folder when browser closes
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THESE SECURITY SETTING AFFECT ..ONLY..INTERNET EXPLORER!
OTHER WEB BROWSERS LIKE FIREFOX,OPERA,ECT. HAVE THEIR OWN SECURITY SETTINGS UNDER THEIR TOOLS..OPTIONS..LINKS,SO BE ..SURE..TO SET THOSE UP AND NOT ALLOW DEFAULT SETTINGS TO PROTECT YOU AS THEY WON'T.
these next two security settings affect ONLY XP Home as Vista has these already coverd.
Services.these 2 "ports" are open by default in XP and need to be closed to hackers.
start
control panel
administrative tools
services:
Alerter:
right click
select properties
from drop down menu select disable
next find Messenger in the M section and also disable the same way.
these next options are NOT security risks but are considerable naggers we can do without harming the performance level of our computer.
Delete Confirmation Dialog Box:
do you want to delete this item?
right click recycle bin icon
select properties
check use 1 setting
uncheck display delete confirmation dialog box
Error Reports:
do you REALLY think that MS cares our software caused a problem and crashed the computer/ THINK AGAIN!
start
control panel
system
advanced
error reports
disable

Try http://www.ewido.net. It's an AVG software that's been outstanding in terms of cleaning up my laptop. My older brother had 8 trojans on his laptop; it's never run better. The free version works just fine.
I have no affiliation with them, I just hate when my computer doesn't load like it should with my broadband connection.
